Joseph Gonzalez, Esq.
Joseph D. Gonzalez is a member of The Bloom Law Firm and specializes in civil litigation. Since being admitted to the State Bar of California in 1997, Joseph has become a nationally recognized expert on toxic torts, complex civil litigation, brain injury cases and the enforcement of statutory law. Joseph won a twelve million dollar ($12,000,000.00) jury verdict on behalf of three clients in toxic tort action in Federal Court; he served as lead counsel for Masry & Vititoe, the firm depicted in the movie, Erin Brockovich.
For more than five years, Joseph served as a member of the control board for Los Angeles water quality and has chaired, co-chaired, and spoken at various events sponsored by the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Mealey’s publications, and Prop 65 News. He is an authority on ground water litigation, property clean up, underground storage tank discharges, statutory enforcement actions, public policy, and regulatory issues and employs a team of top notch advisors who determine which cases to pursue by using predictive models. Joseph has represented clients in numerous high profile cases including an action before the Los Angeles Superior Court, in which over one hundred individuals had their water contaminated by MTBE and a suit in which he obtained a twelve million dollar settlement.
Joseph is also handling several cases involving the Porter Ranch Methane plume recently declared a State of Emergency by the California Governor’s office; handled administrative appeals before the South Coast Air Quality Management District and in one case, successfully compelled polluters to excavate a stretch of coastline that included the town of Avila Beach, California. Other actions prosecuted include Atkins, et al. v. Exxon Mobil et al., before the Supreme Court of the State of New York and Maynard, et al. v. Amerada Hess Corp., et al before the Justice Superior Court Division. Joseph was also in house counsel for Community for a Better Environment and holds a certificate in environmental law with distinction as well as being the recipient of an Environmental Law Institute scholarship.
He received his JD from Golden Gate School of Law and his Bachelors in Political Science from the University of the Pacific. Outside of the law, Joseph maintains an active role within the community and enjoys his free time in the company of his family and by playing golf.
